This photo was taken on 29th September, 2004 at Gushan Mountain, Fuzhou, China. "Gushan" (鼓山)
literally means "Drum Mountain" and named for its drum-like peak which
created drum-like echos during a rainfall, is a scenic attraction
around 900m above sea level... It was a rather steep climb up these particular steps, and I was naturally intrigued and amazed at the strength and determination of this man with only one leg, making his way downhill one tedious step at a time... I originally took this shot in full colour, but the hue of the man's shirt didn't seem to go well with the scenery and stone. So I decided to convert this into a black-and-white photo instead, to focus the attention on his interesting figure... Hope you like this entry (#284)... I agree with you, but I am glad to see that man making his way down the mountain steps one at a time without assistance, and yet never make a sound of complain...
That's why I followed him a bit to take this photo, hoping to capture his spirit and determination. :)
