February 2, 2005rehearsals and renewals... posted at 12:10 AM I woke up today still feeling a bit off centre, but by mid-day, I was more or less ready for rehearsals... Attended the Cast B rehearsal for the school assembly show, "15 Minutes of Fame", by D'rama Arts... Cast B includes: Emma who did sound for "24 Pieties", Fared, either Shida or Elnie, and I... It was a hilarious rehearsal, made more so by the funny cast of motley characters... I was perspiring buckets by the time we ended our session, especially since the soft drinks dispensed by the vending machine at TAPAC wasn't cold at all (I called up the vending machine operator to complain)... Anyway, I popped over to Cali gym for a quick shower and then dinner nearby before heading over to my second rehearsal of the day, which was for the play, "Adultery", at The Substation's Blue Room... The director, Lionel, did some warmups with me and my British co-actor, Richard, and then proceeded to explore the first scene of the play in absolute detail... It was not an easy task to come up with varying emotions and inflections at a snap, so I'll need to practice more on that area... The rest of the crew who came didn't really get much to do so they ended up having food elsewhere... On the bus service 124 home, I bumped into Benson and his future cousin-in-law... Had a bus-ride long chat with Benson, mostly reminiscing about our carefree River Valley High School days and how we spent our childhood singing in Xinyao events etc... On the way home, I got a sudden craving for fish & chips, which I had at a coffeeshop nearby... Right now, there is this colourful and interestingly romantic and tragic Thai-Western flick showing on Arts Central called "Tears of the Black Tiger"... I think I will go borrow its DVD from the library@esplanade, which reminds me that I will need to renew my subscription soon... Which reminds me of other subscription renewals like TV licences etc... Sigh... [ Feeling... * schizo... * ] [ Reading... * Deepak Chopra-The Daughters of Joy * ] [ Watching... * Tears of the Black Tiger * ] comments

playground for eeni, space station for mini... posted at 11:22 PM While downstairs having lunch at the coffeeshop, I decided to get a proper cage for my dwarf hamsters... There was only one choice in the pet shop, so I ended up buying the Habitrail Playground cage set that comes with a bag of wood shavings... I spent an enjoyable hour setting up the cage and getting it all ready to move Eeni in... Such fun to watch the little creature explore and sniff out the crooks and crannies in the new surroundings... Will get the other Habitrail Space Station cage thoroughly clean for Mini tonight... Met up with Yongwee at Prudential Towers to settle more insurance issues and he gave me some very good advice on my housing problems and cashflow issues too... I headed off to Siglap South CC for a rehearsal of "Pulau" and Boon Seng directed us this time, and led us through some fun theatre games to warm us up before getting into the script proper... It was pretty hard for me to memorise pages and pages of Mandarin text, but I managed to struggle through in the end... After arranging the rehearsal schedules, Grace graciously drove me back home, and I headed to the market for supper... [ Feeling... * okay * ] |

super sala mismatched mcparty... posted at 02:25 AM I spent most of the day setting up the cages for Eeni and Mini, placing the more active and agressive Eeni in the Habitrail Playground and the friendlier Mini in the Habitrail Space Station... Was supposed to meet Dex in town before heading over to Liting's party, but our timing didn't match... I had a quick workout at Cali RP Gym, then found a bus that goes nearby the McDonald's outlet at Kallang... That's where Liting held her 21st Birthday celebrations, with around 70 of her family and friends attending... It was rather fun meeting up with the folks from the short film "The Letter" and my students from the OmniArts Troupers, as well as other friends of Ting's, especially with almost everyone garbed in the theme of the event: "Super Sala Mismatched Party"... The winner of the most Mismatched Prize goes to none other than the super hilarious Gloria, alias Gaoju... After rounds of games and McDonald's food, Ting and some of us adjourned over to Holland V's Tango Restaurant for supper and bottles of French red wine, to countdown to Ting's actual birthday which was on 5th February... It turned out that in the same restaurant, there was a bride-to-be being sabotaged by her friends... More friends joined us later, but I was ready to leave soon after the midnight hour... I wished the birthday girl happiness and everything good, and then made my own way home... [ Feeling... * ... * ] |

bad education is good... posted at 02:24 AM Glad I left Ting and the gang early last night, as I had rehearsals early in the morning... I have yet to go through the script and lines, so much homework to do... Turned out the youngsters had a few too many and got into a mess... Still, I woke up late and arrived late... very unprofessional! I sincerely promised Lionel, Craig and Grace that I will never be late again for rehearsals... I really really hate (my very first strong angry word on this blog to date) being late, and the uncertain cab driver didn't help either by going around in circles... ![]() Oh well, the rehearsal went pretty well... There was plenty of exploration with the nuances and beats, but finally we each got our characters down pat... After rehearsals, I went off to attend a casting call for Dongli 883FM, recommended by Garrick, and had to wait a bit as they were late... Well, it promises to be a really fun job and I hope to get the part... With some time to spare, I travelled to Pet Love, a pet shop at River Valley Road, where I bought more cellulose fibre bedding material and snacks for my dwarf hamsters, before running home to dump the stuff... Then I headed out to meet Glenn at Orchard Road after he had his new funky haircut, and then on impulse, we decided to watch a movie at Lido Cinema... Turned out the film we chose, "Bad Education", was a really touching Spanish movie about an actor, a transvestite, a paedophilic priest, a film-maker... and a script called "Las Visitas"... ![]() Starring a very handsome/beautiful Gael Garcias Bernal, and filmed by Pedro Almodovar, it is a film within a film, and involves complex topics on homosexuality and paedophilia among others... it is a truly engaging drama indeed... And in the movie, a school boy sang the most beautiful rendition of "Moon River" that I have ever heard, and Bernal performed the most sensual and sexiest lip-synching of the song "Quizas Quizas Quizas" I have ever seen... After the show, Glenn and I shopped a bit then had dinner at my fave Rabbit Brand... Following that, we chatted and strolled along Orchard Road, and ended up at Plaza Singapura where we had a drink and a long chat at Starbucks and then I bought tons of grocery provisions from Carrefour to tide me over the Lunar New Year period... ![]() I foresee that I will be staying at home a lot especially in the first few days... Today, my bro finally returned me a sum of money which I had lent him earlier, and I also received what little remained of my late father's estate... will plan ahead for a secure and comfortable future... Still need to collect my long-delayed salaries from The Fun Stage and Toy Factory, as well as money from Ahmad Nazari and God knows how many people I have lent money to when I could afford it... Hope they will return everything back to me asap, as it is NOT wise to owe people money over the CNY... [ Feeling... * nice * ] [ Watching... * Bad Education (R21) * ] |

two rehearsals, no energy left... posted at 09:45 PM Woke up late again, and almost didn't make it to rehearsals for "15 Minutes of Fame" in time... It was another fun session and later on, Danny joined us to observe... After the rehearsal, I took a quick shower at Cali Gym then lunch nearby, before heading over to another rehearsal for "Pulau"... More memorisation of the script took place until arrive Adrian arrived and took us scene by scene and in detail... That's it for today, I am officially exhausted... rehearse and rehearse posted at 05:29 AM It was a rush to be on time for my early morning rehearsal for "Pulau", but thankfully the production manager, Grace, drove me there... Our director, Adrian, wasn't available but his assistant director, Boon Seng, managed to get me and my only co-actor, Judy, to go through a new draft of the script and did several runs of a particular scene... I brought my camera along to take some photos of me and Judy for the poster of the play... Lunch was taken at the nearby Deutsche Cantonese Restaurant" which was a pretty interesting combination, if uninspiring selection, of Jewish wall hangings and Asian food... I had to take a ride on Grace's van again to attend my second rehearsal of the day, for "15 Minutes of Fame" at TAPAC... I managed to get my lines down finally and we got praise from the producer of this school assembly musical, Edwin, for our rapport and a job well done... ![]() By evening, I was absolutely exhausted, and headed home straightaway for dinner and a good rest... Towards the end, I enjoyed a very long phone chat with Eddie before I called it a night... [ Feeling... * exhausted * ] |

show, show, scene, scene... posted at 11:18 AM After waiting ages for the bus service 61 to fetch me to Telok Blangah Heights, it took me another 15 mins to walk in and find the new location of my alma mater, Blangah Rise Primary School... Found Janet, Ema and Fared there but our stage manager of the day wasn't... Our show was much delayed and we had to improvise an intro act to entertain the restless kids and impatient teachers... Incidentally, I didn't recognise any of the teachers or staff as those who taught me during my primary school days must have moved on by now... I remember wishing I had studied in this new environment back then, as it was a really nice place indeed... Ema drove us all across the country to North Spring Primary School for our second show of the day, and along the way, we were summoned by the traffic police for not displaying a sticker on the van to allow 3 passengers in front... That was a $50 ride for poor Ema, but at least she didn't get any points deducted... By the time we ended the second show, I was extremely beat, but still gotta rush home to grab the script for "Adultery", then headed for its rehearsal at The Substation... It was a long session spanning two rehearsals and two scenes in one, with only a brief dinner break at The Magic Wok Thai-Chinese Restaurant... The Magic of MSG must have gotten to our heads as the rest of the rehearsals were mostly spent on ridiculous banter and sudden hysterical laughter about "se-ducks" and "bedroom hamsters" etc... Back at home, with the lights still on and my PC just logged on, I fell asleep... [ Feeling... * beat... * ] |

* long long fruitful day... posted at 12:19 AM I woke up early and got myself all ready for the very first rehearsal of Dramaplus Arts's school assembly show, "Return of the XYZ Files", only to find out that the rehearsal had been postponed to next Tuesday... Oh well, which meant I had more time to dilly-dally at home, log on to my PC and waste more time trying to get online... And be nearly late for today's drama training session at Zheng Hua Secondary School... Class turned out pretty expectedly, despite a girl crying due to an argument with a boy, and another obstinate student acting like a prima donna... I planted those rebellious students firmly in their seats and giving them little chance to create trouble... Went through the project they were supposed to hand in soon, and got them to understand the stage terms and positions according to Les Thespians Drama Company's syllabus... After class ended, I was able to take a long deep breath and soothe my dry throat... Went over with Liting to Lucky Plaza's Rabbit Brand Restaurant and had some nice cheap seafood set meals... I bought a couple of Filipino music concert vcds from one of the shops, including those of the current hottie Piolo Pascual and Diether Ocampo etc... Made Ting follow me to Giordano where I used her discount card to get cheaper priced tee-shirts, and then to Popular Bookstore to get a printer ink cartridge... Finally, we made our way to IKEA where Rebecca joined us for another meal at the cafe... Ting was kept busy running to and fro to fetch us nonsense, in a ploy to allow her to oogle at some eye-candy... ![]() After walking around the aisles and furniture, Ting and Uncle were engaging in happy talk, while I convinced myself to buy new bedsheets and a throw rug as well as a pair of towelling slippers... Still at a shopping high, we walked over to Anchorpoint Mall to check out the shops there, and I bought even more stuff: A lightweight 1.7L kettle as well as a multi-tiered food steamer, all for $47.80... Running out of places to go, we decided to give the age-old Queensway Shopping Centre a visit, and ended up at the McDonald's for desserts... There, I ended up giving them a brief introduction to the esoteric New Age world of Reiki energy healing, chakras, symbolisms, moon phases, soulmates and past lives, among other spiritual subjects... I had for the past several years compiled such interesting articles in my own Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/omspa/ , and I sincerely welcome every open-minded and open-hearted individuals who wish to learn more on how to lead a complete and holistically integrated life... I was in the midst of relating how to "manifest" during this current Waxing Moon, and I was secretly wishing for someone to help bring me back with all my heavy shopping load, when Daniel called asking if he could fetch me in a few minutes' time... Turned out he was driving along the highway towards us after his long day of work, and wanted to meet up... Thanking everything for turning out as it did, I bade Ting and Uncle the farewells and hopped onto Daniel's car... After driving me home to deposit my stuff, he took me to his place to admire his new litter of five impossibly adorable dwarf hamsters from the original pair he had before... They were extremely cute and vulnerable, and Daniel felt that he couldn't bear to give or sell them away, so he intended to rear them by himself... I stayed on for instant noodles and rounds of vcd viewings before calling it a happy night... [ Feeling... * exhausted... * ] |

* logos and posters... posted at 04:43 AM Dilly-dallied in bed for ages before deciding it was time to get my ass outdoors... After lunch downstairs, I went to check out the pet shop for a Habitrail cage for Daniel's baby dwarf hamsters... At home, managed to get my printer working just enough to print some sticker labels for Omhealth, as well as the poster designs for "Pulau"... After that, there wasn't much time before I had to meet Renee at Fairfield Methodist Sec Sch to pass her my new tee-shirts to have the Les Thespians Drama Company logos printed on... Home again, I fed and played with my Eeni and Mini, and thoroughly enjoyed their curious gazes and animated antics... Soon after, it was time to head off for "Pulau"'s rehearsal, but during the bus transfer, I popped over to the M1 Shop to reserve a new Nokia 6260 handset... During rehearsal, Adrian got Jun Sheng to record Judy on video for the multi-media segment, while he went through different issues with my characterisations for the play... It was very hard for me to stay focused, tired as I was, and not to mention my eye condition was losing me eye contact... Grace not only drove me back, but gave me her remaining fried beehoon and nuggets to drive my hunger away too... [ Feeling... * fully utilised... * ] |

being brunette, arts buzz & nokia 6260... posted at 03:04 AM Today is another of those half-gone days, where I woke up past noon and found most of the day had passed by silently... Spent most of the time keying in all the phone numbers and contacts from my mobile phone to my PC... Try doing that and scrolling down name by name for more than 500 contacts... I almost went cross-eyed by the time I got all that done... Which was when I finally found the little bottle of dark brown hair dye and went to do a little bit of chemistry in the bathroom... I emerged from the weak diluted solution half an hour later, with my last blonde job almost gone but not quite... Now I am an almost-brunette, more like copper... Since there wasn't time to repair the damage, or add on with another dye session, that will have to do for tonight... I rushed over to the M1 Shop at Change Alley and arrived just in time to see the roller-shutter shutting down... Didn't want to make the trip a wasted one, and losing a potentially good promotional saving, I sneaked in below the shutters and made it clear that I won't leave until I get my new phone... Which I did, and it was a nice multi-function Nokia 6260 in black in exchange for my year-old retarded Sony Ericsson T630... ![]() Spent another hour transfering data from one phone to the next, and midway, I That extra hour also meant that I ended up very late for the "Arts Buzz" interview and filming of the rehearsal for "Adultery"... This interview and shoot will serve as publicity and be telecast regularly on "Arts Central" closer to the show dates, so do watch out for it... After the shoot, we continued on with more scene work and script readings, till closing time... I went over to The Regalia to meet Nicholas, then went over to Mohamed Sultan Road for supper and drinks, while waiting for Nick's friend Brandon to appear and pass him some stuff... I proudly showed them the flyer for "Adultery", and invited them to come lend their support... Then I got ready for home... Can't wait actually, especially with my new mobile phone simply begging to be explored... [ Feeling... * new... * ] |

shoot and interview, before cleaning cages... posted at 01:22 PM I really need to get used to the Rooster call that is the alarm signal from my new Nokia 6260, as it didn't manage to wake me up in time today... Rushing over to the Registry of Marriage, I found myself early for today's shoot of the video montages for "Adultery" after all... While waiting for Lionel, his girlfriend Lilian, her sister Lisa, and Mark of Emeharkeh, to arrive and set up, I looked amusedly at the throngs of lovestruck newly-weds or soon-to-bes queuing and taking photos with their entourage of well-wishers... There was an especially well-groomed couple, dressed most exquisitely in fine silk and made up by some stylish stylist, commanding a horde of gadget-laden photographers... much unlike the other couples with their excited and stressed faces and impatient mannerisms... Anyway, I reckoned this couple must have been models for some magazine... The shoot was funny and easy, as I played this bumbling guy on some blind dates, and how these dates inadvertently turned out disastrous... Filming went on at another two locations: The first was at Chiang Mai Palace Restaurant where Grace, Craig, Gillian and Richard joined us for a delicious Thai buffet for real, and conversations for the show... Next we headed over to Mark's bungalow at Serangoon Gardens, where we did several mood shots and voiceovers in his very well-equiped studio... It was some hours later when we finished all filming and rehearsals, and by then we were all pretty beat... Grace and I ended up having dinner at Han's Restaurant at Novena Square, then when she left later, I went over to Cali Orchard Gym for a quick refreshing shower, and to catch a glimpse of the road-closing "Chingay Parade"... Feeling clean and fresh again, I finally made my way to UFM 100.3's studios at SLF Building where Boon Seng, Judy and Yunsheng joined me for a live radio interview for "Pulau" with the presenter, Ng How Wee, who was incidentally also the show's playwright... We had a fun time chatting "On Air", and I really enjoyed being back in the familiar radio deejay console and studio... Back at home, I decided it was time to springclean my dwarf hamsters' odorous cages with my brother, and it took us one full hour to get this task done and get Eeni and Mini fed and powder-bathed... dad came, had long run, oysters and priscilla... posted at 02:42 AM While having lunch today at the coffeeshop downstairs, I sat alone at a table enjoying a plate of something, when I had a strong feeling and vivid vision of my late Father sitting right opposite me... He was in his usual yellow tee-shirt in a familiar pose, with a cigarette in one hand, a mug of Tiger Beer in the other, sipping and smiling at me... Tears just welled in my eyes as I held a wordless conversation with Dad, then just as suddenly he bade goodbye and appeared standing at a distance further away... Right at that moment, a woman approached and asked me if that exact seat opposite me (that Dad had been sitting) was occupied... I said "No", and she sat down and promptly had her lunch... I hadn't tuned into the other dimensions for a long time now, but every time I did, everything was so crystal clear and everything made sense while they lasted... But now I am not so sure... I waited ages for a bus so that I could wait ages again to transfer to another bus, before I finally made it very late to the rehearsal for "Pulau"... It was a full attendance and one more: the playwright, How Wee, who was witnessing his "baby"'s first words and steps... After a long rehearsal, we called it a day... Adrian, Boon Seng and I ended up having a delicious seafood platter, fish & chips AND a dozen fresh juicy oysters at a restaurant called The Big Fish at Upper East Coast Road... Back home, I continued to figure out the various new functions on my new phone, while trying in vain to get online... Decided there was just enough time to watch a DVD before I sleep, I popped "Priscilla-Queen of the Desert" into the player and had a great time... Speaking of movies, I just received word from the folks of "Rice Rhapsody" that I will be getting two free tickets to watch its long-belated local premiere at Jade Cinema on 22nd February 2005, at 7.30pm... Wanted to go with Bryan but since he didn't pick up his phone fast enough, my other free ticket went to my dear friend Katrina instead... Can't wait... home, brought it on again, full run and supper... posted at 01:37 AM Spent much of today at home, playing with my dwarf hamsters and taking their photos (will post here soon), watching the dvd of "Bring It On 2" that my bro kept playing again and again, and also making the most of the miraculous internet connection I managed to eke out of my PC today... Then it was time to go for another "Pulau" rehearsal... We had our very first full run today, although both me and Judy hadn't fully memorised our lines yet... It looks set to be a controversial yet potentially engaging show indeed... After the rehearsal, Judy again couldn't join us for supper as she had to be with her partner who was ill, so Adrian, Boon Seng, Grace and I went out to Kaki Bukit area for a nice multi-course hawker supper... reh xyz, new glasses and delicious hainan chicken rice... posted at 02:46 AM I woke up, got ready, rushed out and arrived at Dramaplus Arts earlier than the rest for our first rehearsal of the school assembly play, "Return of the XYZed Files"... It was just a read-through of the script and that's it; nothing much we could do with the director not available till the next rehearsal... After just one hour plus, we went splits and I ended up with one of the cast, Serene Tan, at Plaza Singapura's McDonald's for a Big Breakfast meal... Once that was done, I went over to Mee Mee Optics at Park Mall to collect my new prescription glasses... ![]() When I got home, I spent the whole entire day trying to get the poster design of my play "Pulau" ready for printing and sending it in vain to the production team for vetting... Anyway, the website, http://www.nowstagethis.com/events-pulau.htm containing the show details and ticketing information, is already up and running... I left the house with my PC still in limbo, and met up with Katrina at Jade 1 Cinema at Shaw Tower, for the premiere screening of "Rice Rhapsody" (see earlier entry)... The movie was even better than I had expected or hoped for, and I believe it will touch many hearts and warm many souls with the wonderfully steady performance of Sylvia Chang as the mother of 3 happysexual sons, Martin Yan as her ardent admirer and rival restaurant owner, and of course, the luminescent Melanie Laurent as the magical and spiritually-wise "Sabine"... It was also a fun experience, trying to spot the numerous celebrities, local as well as overseas, making cameo appearances all through the film... I am proud to say that I have one small cameo too, towards the 3rd quarters of the film, in a character that is quite a far departure from the real Edric Hsu... ![]() There are also many quirky and quotable quotes flowing out of the beautiful "Sabine", which I will share here when I can remember them... One quirk I was amazed to discover within the show, is that we share the same habit of noticing when the numbers "11:11" appear in our lives... Be it as a car license plate number or a date or a time, these four repeated numerals always signal to me that God and the Angels are in agreement with my plans and actions... ("11" being a Master number in Numerology)... There were just as many familiar faces in the audience, and from the general chatter, I did not hear any negative comments about the film... In short, I would highly recommend everyone, straight or happy, to watch and enjoy this movie for it's simple charm, moving story, magical moments, and spiritual messages... I give it: ***** After the show, I did not linger to mingle, but went off with Katrina to Ajisen Ramen for our late dinner... [ Feeling... * great... * ] [ Watching... * Rice Rhapsody * ] |

stress class, poster, on air, 11:11, open minds... posted at 01:19 AM Class today was a very stressful affair, as the rebellious secondary two students were simply hard to control without losing tempers... But thankfully by the end of the half hour session, I had managed to drum my messages into their brains... Renee returned me my tee-shirts with the Les Thespians Drama Company logos printed on, and I am glad I decided to choose the funkier colours over conventional black and white ones... After the class, Celine and I took a bus to town and after I browsed a while at HMV, made my way home too... On passing by the Tang Gah Beo Temple, I went in to pay my respects to Mom and Dad at the ancestral altar... After all, today is "Yuan XIao Jie", the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, which not only marks the first full moon of the lunar year, it is also the traditional Chinese version of "Valentine's Day", and an occasion for a reunion dinner with the tossing of "Yu Sheng" salads... Not that it meant much to me, as I had more pressing matters to attend to... I took a short nap and then spent the next several hours turning on and restarting my PC, and using whatever time I can get the PC working to finish up the loose bits of the poster design for "Pulau"... Managed to get things done more or less, but needed to rush over to UFM 100.3 for another radio interview to promote "Pulau", this time with deejay Yuling, scriptwriter How Wee and co-actor Judy... I had fun chatting on and off air, and I think we managed to generate sufficient interest in our play among the listeners... Interestingly, the deejay chose to announce the time at exactly "11:11"pm, and it brought me back again to last night's movie, "Rice Rhapsody"... Apparently this movie's premiere screening last night had been delayed more than a month before local censors agreed to lower the rating from a It was really late by the time I reached home, but when I finally got online, I found among the varied internet movie reviews for the above-mentioned movie this quote by the lead actress, Sylvia Chang: “I think the film is unsuitable for those who don't have an open mind,” actress Chang said. “It has nothing to do with age.” Well put, indeed... xyz's new director, ang zow mee sua, snooze, pulau and ltdc... posted at 02:10 AM I got up, got prepared, got out and got to Dramaplus Arts in time for a rehearsal for "Return to XYZ Files", and meeting the American director Paul for the first time... Paul had years of experience working at theme parks and in puppeteering in the US, and missed being involved in the upcoming puppet movie "Team America: World Police" to move to Singapore... It was a fruitful rehearsal and he liked the chemistry between me and my co-actors, Rodney Olivero and Serene Tan... After the rehearsal, I walked Serene to Bugis area, bumped into Chris at the Guan Yin Temple, had delicious traditional Fuzhou-style "Hong2 Zao1 Ji1 Mian4 Xian4" (Red Wine Chicken Soup with Mee Sua), bumped into Garrick and passed him the show info for "Pulau", and then I headed straight home to take a nap... I snoozed over several alarm alerts from my handphone, set aptly to the sound of rooster calls, and woke up again just in time for another rehearsal of "Pulau" at Siglap South CC... After that, and some intimate scenes in between, I almost forgot about my appointment with the Les Thespians Drama Company folks and almost went home in Grace's van... Thankfully, Renee called at the right moment and I made it to the Cafe Cartel at Siglap to meet her, Gerard and Yan to discuss plans for a drama enrichment programme they wanted me to take on... Celine joined us soon after, and we got the contracts and schedules cleared up before leaving for home... [ Feeling... * sleepy * ] |
